Why can’t I solve it myself?

“Asking for help is never a sign of weakness. It’s one of the bravest things you can do. And it can save your life.”
― Lily Collins, Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me.

It is upsetting to try over and over again to handle a situation and see how it is much bigger than ourselves apparently. We are so used to doing things on our own in a society that praises individuality and condemns fragility that we try with all our strengths to fight our battles all alone.

History books seem to have failed to teach us to ask for help, even when we have found not even one General winning the war on his own. Still, we think that we are supposed to grow without any help and learn everything on our own, why couldn’t we? Isn’t that what everybody’s doing? Yes, everything is fighting their own battle, but we are all different, with different needs, and it is okay if you need more bridges than others, as it is okay if others need more lamps than you, and others more background music than you.

If you have been trying to solve it for too long on your own, even if you just started! Please, keep in mind that there are many resources out there for you to go through that, including therapy. It might be a little rocky initially, but give me a vow of faith in this and give it a try before quitting.

  1. This is so true, vulnerability is still being looked as a weakness, many people think being mentally strong means burying or ignoring your feelings, your needs and just keep moving on. We need to stop for a moment and look within ourselves, there is so much inner work to do, life’s struggles are not easy to deal with by ourselves. Thanks for creating awareness about this and for all the help you have given me whenever I needed it.
